In the late 1960's I, like many
other people started with a Rough Collie, but in the early seventies I went to a
"Collie gathering' at Tilehouse where I met people that had four Smooth sable
babies in their
car. Needless to say I returned home with two of them. The
little bitch, Treewood Golden Delight, did very well in England, gaining one CC
and numerous Reserves, including Crufts 1973, before going to Sweden and then to
Finland where she became an International Champion.
I purchased two more bitch puppies
from the late John Liversidge, a tricolour Eng Ch Jalondas Jacanapes and a blue
merle Jalonda Clochmerle. Jacanapes did very well in the show ring going Best in
Show at the 1974 smooth Collie Club Show and
Best of Breed at Crufts in 1975
under Mrs Kay Alexander. Badger as we called her, was purchased by Trevor and
Birgit Hayward and has produced many top winners for them.
For a time I owned Kelbonnie
Chan-El Gina, the American bitch by Am. Ch. Smooth Syndicate which Christine
Leach imported into England in whelp to Can. Ch. Kelbonnie Goliath O'Darjoro.
She was an outstanding character but unfortunately she developed pyometra so
never bred another litter and
spent the rest of her days being the spoilt pet of
my parents. Her son Ralph of Talcott, one of the litter born in quarantine,
sired an outstanding litter when put to Jalonda's Clochmerle, producing Eng. Ch.
Talcott Farewell at Heronlea, Int. Ch. Talcott Follow On and Int. Ch. Talcott
Fugitive. He has had a strong influence over the breed in Finland and is behind
much of their stock today.
In 1981 we moved to Melbourne
Australia and I continued with my breeding program. I imported from England,
Aust. Ch. Foxearth Forebear at Talcott who has had a tremendous influence over
the stock in Australia and Aust. Ch. Foxearth Frisson who produced some wonderful
children, hence most of my stock has come down from these
extremely important
dogs.
At Talcott we breed for soundness,
type, quality and temperament, which I believe are extremely important when
breeding high quality Smooth Collies. All our puppies are eye tested and we have
been lucky enough to produce lines of clear stock with selective breeding. Thank
you to everyone who has helped along the way, too numerous names to mention.
